I can't send out e-mails. I can receive emails, but not send. (how to test for connection issues included)

Please confirm that your SMTP authentication is properly setup. For information on how to do this, please refer to our Knowledge Base

If you have confirmed that SMTP authenication is not the issue, and your problem includes errors such as:

  • Server unexpectedly terminated connection
  • Unable to connect to servername

Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) may be preventing you from sending e-mails using your own mail server that is provided through us. Please contact your ISP to resolve the issue.

  • You will need to state that you wish to you use your mail server (mail.yourdomain.com).
  • You will also need to request that your ISP unblock port 25.
  • Also be sure to inquire to your account representative that your router/modem MAC address is registered correctly.

To test for SMTP connection issues please follow the steps below:

  • Click START in Windows
  • Click RUN, type 'cmd' (without quotes)
  • Type 'ping mail.domainname.com' (replace domainname.com with your domain)
  • If no errors are returned, our mail server is running and accepting connections.
    • If errors are returned, please contact our office at 304-255-2230 and let us know the results of your PING test
  • Type 'telnet mail.domainname.com 25'
  • If you are see a command line showing your C:\ prompt, then port 25 is blocked. Otherwise, the mail server is able to connect with outgoing SMTP mail and is operating correctly.
  • Please type QUIT to end the telnet session.
  • Type EXIT to close the command window.

If Port 25 is being blocked, please set your email client software to use Port 587 instead of port 25. Digital Beckley supports using both ports for SMTP
